Porsche 356 Speedster Recreation

The Porsche 356 Speedster was introduced in 1954 after Max Hofmann, the American importer of the German brand, saw opportunities for a cheaper, spartan open sports car based on the successful 356. Porsche then introduced the 356 Speedster. Like many legendary models in Porsche history, the “art of omission” led to one of the most desirable models in automotive history.

This Porsche 356 Vintage Speedster is a recreation of the original. It concerns an example that was built by the renowned American company Vintage Speedsters, which has now delivered more than 3,300 copies of the Speedster.

It was Lammertink Classics, part of Porsche Centrum Twente, who brought this Speedster to the Netherlands and, even better, thoroughly checked the car and made improvements where necessary. In 2011, Porsche Center Enter registered this Speedster as a demonstrator. The odometer now shows a still very modest 14900 km. The car is truly in near mint condition and certainly belongs to the absolute top when it comes to recreations of the icon.

Under the skin, this Speedster has a shortened chassis of a 1962 VW Beetle. A steel subframe has been mounted on it, which gives the car a very high degree of rigidity. Most Speedsters on offer have a 1,600 cc air-cooled engine, but this one is equipped with a stronger 1,915 cc air-cooled engine with twin carburettors that produces about 90 hp. This spicy engine is coupled to a 3:88 gearbox. Due to the optional double sports exhaust, this Speedster produces an impressive sound that will be music to the enthusiasts’ ears. In terms of braking power, the driver doesn’t have to worry either, since this car has the optional disc brakes at the front.

The body of the Speedster is made of polyester. Because the paintwork could not withstand the judgment of the perfectionist, it was decided before delivery to provide the body with a new layer of paint in 5404 Elfenbein Weiss, an original Porsche color. The body is like new and completely damage free. The applied gold lettering and emblems are the original copies from the Porsche shelves, including the contemporary Reuter logo. It’s the details that make this Speedster so attractive. For example, it was delivered with special “white wall” tires, Carrera filler cap in the hood, luxurious blue number plates and aluminum moldings and sill moldings.

The interior is upholstered in a beautiful cream color that complements perfectly with the white paint. The bucket seats keep you perfectly in place and are covered with leatherette. The wooden Nardi steering wheel with original Porsche horn button and the minimalist dashboard do not in any way suggest that you are in a recreation.

In short, a beautiful Porsche 356 Speedster recreation in a very tasteful color scheme, exceptionally high quality and equipped with attractive options that are not inferior to a new one.
